Can Fish See The Colored Fishing Line?

Does it spook them or anything? I have some neon orange line I was going to string my rod with.

  • They can only see it if they look at it. All line is visible in the water…even fluorocarbon, but it is the least visible.

I would think that the orange should attract them like a bright Orange lure. But it makes me wonder some times too.

It might scare them off, but it depends on the type of fish you’re fishing for. Generally trout are pretty smart, and they’re the only ones I’ve ever heard of seeing line…

My Friend caught a rainbow trout with colored line about 2 months ago. He didn’t catch as much fish as my other Friend who had clear line using the same bait (rooster tails) though. I however was using my fly rod with 2lb fluorocarbon tippet and caught the most fish by far, and the biggest.

Yes you can catch trout and fish with colored line , but you will probably catch more with a low visibility line . Or you can use it but I would at least use a florocarbon leader with the colored line.

Yeah’ they’ll see it, but ta’ help out put a fluorolcarbon or low visibility leader on your colored line, say 18′” to 20″ and it should do the trick…

yes fish can line visibility can play a major role in how many fish u catch murky water line visibility really don’t matter in stained and clear match line color to water or use cajunn red line
