If you mean the Lafayette reservoir in the east San Francisco Bay, then yes, you do need a license.
But you can catch a lot of Trout and Bass while fishing from the shoreline there!
    Good Luck!

Are you a 16+-year-old young-un, living in the state of Louisiana? I’m a born and bred lifetime son of the great (severely underated) State of LA. The name of ‘Lafayette’ brings to me memories of that great little city — home of almost 100 percent *Cajun* people who have names like Thibideaux (pronounced as ‘t->ib-eh-dough) and Broussard (pronounced as br-oou-sahrd and Fontenot (pronounced as fuhon[up-in-tbe-nose]-teh-no); and located within short driving distances to some of the best still water fishing spots in the nation. I’m not familiar with the ‘Lafayette Reservoir’, but if it is a set-aside State or National Preserve of some sort, I’m sure that you will have to have a license to fish there — if you can *get* one.

  • Lafayette, Louisiana or Lafayette, Indiana? Or some other Lafayette I haven’t heard of? In Louisiana you need a license to fish anywhere that’s not private property. A reservoir shore sounds like state property, so I would say you definitely need a license. I don’t know how it is in other states, but fishing without a license here in Louisiana carries a hefty fine.

  • Yes, actually you need to have a license to fish anywhere owned by the state. This means you can fish on a private pond or lake without a fishing license, but you must have permission.
