I Want To Get Back Into Fishing. I Live In Orange County Ca. Where Is A Good Place To Fish?

I also would appreciate any recommendations for fishing gear like poles and bait. Where would be a good place to shop?

  • There are many places to fish around OC area. You didn’t specify which area you’re in so I’ll give you some links to SoCal fishing sites and you could search for the most suitable location yourself.http://fishingnetwork.net/forum4/index.p…http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fish/Hatcheries/Fi…http://www.pierfishing.com/http://www.sportfishingreport.com/
As for tackles and equipments, you could try stores such as Turners, Sport Authority, Sport Chalet, Big-5 and Wal-Mart. You will be able to find the stores I mentioned above online and search for a nearest store.
I’d only recommend a medium action spinning rod and reel since you didn’t mention what kind of fish you wish to target. You could catch a good variety of fish with a medium action spinning rod in both freshwater and saltwater.

Try wetting a line at Lake Irvine in Orange County. This is a private lake of over 600 acres and has bass, crappie, trout, catfish and wipers( cross of white bass and striper). They also rent boats and have shore fishing. They open early in the AM, and close at dark. Go to their website and take a look. All the latest fishing info and prices are there.
No California liscense is required, but there is a fee to fish.
Puddingstone Lake near the Pomona fair ground may also be a fair place, though I have never fished it. Since it is a state park you will need a CA liscense.
As a general rule for most fishing a decent 6 1/2 foot medium spinning rod and reel spooled with 8 lb test would work for most situations.
Try going to Bass Pro shop in Rancho Cucamonga to check out their selection. They cover all price ranges and can offer excellent help in bait and lure suggestions
